Projects Guide — Rise of Nations

Projects launched in Rise of Nations on May 24, 2026, after Discord previews in late April and the scrap of the Fog of War experiment. Hyperant replaced a visibility test with a long-horizon investment layer: spend political power, money, resources, and manpower over many ticks for temporary or permanent modifiers. Roughly thirty projects sit across Diplomatic, Domestic, Economy, Military, Political, and Research categories. This guide explains how the system feels in a live match, when to run Centralize Military-Political Influence, how Initiate Ideological Imposition (June 2026) changes ideology planning, and why early-game Centralize can wreck a fragile opening. Cross-link Ideology, Economy, Military, Getting Started, and Updates.

What Projects replaced and why it matters

Fog of War spent months in Hyperant’s testing place with unit-type vision ranges and ally vision sharing. It was cut on April 30, 2026. Design attention shifted to Projects: visible-map matches stayed the same, but nations gained a second “research queue” of national goals. If an old video promises hidden armies, ignore it. If a new video complains about project friction — capacity limits, concurrent slots, and PP starvation — that friction is intentional. Projects reward planning, not impulse clicks.

How Projects work

Treat a Project like a timed national program:

  1. Meet requirements (ideology, stability thresholds, modifiers, or prior techs).
  2. Pay an initial investment of political power, military power, money, resources, and/or manpower.
  3. Occupy project capacity (often 1–2 slots; early games start with limited capacity).
  4. Progress every tick while upkeep and concomitant modifiers apply.
  5. Receive completion effects, cooldowns, and sometimes stackable repeat runs.

If political power hits zero mid-project, progress can stall. That is why Centralize exists — and why mis-timing it hurts. Technology can expand how many projects run concurrently; keep research priorities aligned with the Technology Guide.

Categories at a glance

  • Diplomatic — influence, aid-adjacent programs, and external posture tools.
  • Domestic — internal stability, cabinet, and society programs.
  • Economy — industrial, mining, infrastructure, and stimulative acts that pair with factory openings.
  • Military — readiness, AT initiatives, construction militarization, and wartime preparation.
  • Political — PP generation, purges, decrees, and ideology imposition.
  • Research — labs, data centers, and research advancement programs that stack with Research Bureau style policies.

Ideology-flavored examples include Formulate 5 Year Plan (Socialism/Communism), Establish Great New Deal Initiative (Liberalism/Democracy), and Economy Militarization Drive (Nationalism/Fascism). These unlock timed national modifiers that lean into each wing’s strengths — details shift with patches, so read tooltips before committing capacity.

Centralize Military-Political Influence

Centralize Military-Political Influence is the signature Political project for hungry PP banks. On completion it grants on the order of +300 political power while costing about -10% stability, and while the project is active your military fights under roughly 0.85x attack and 0.85x defense. Requirements commonly include low-to-mid stability bands and a military-power investment, with progress rate helped by strong generals/staff and — notably — the Stratocracy State Doctrine law on Nationalism/Fascism paths (see Ideology).

Early-game tip: use Centralize carefully

New players see +300 PP and queue the project during the factory race. That is how openings die:

  • The 0.85x combat penalty coincides with your first AI wars and lure traps.
  • Stability loss stacks with consumer-goods shortages and ideology flips.
  • Capacity used on Centralize is capacity not used on economy or research programs.

Better pattern: finish the Economy opening (Ignore Safety Regulations + Improve Infrastructure factory spike), stabilize consumer goods, then Centralize when you need a PP surge for laws, formables, or a safer mid-game project chain — not while your only tank stack is crossing into a mountain ambush.

Initiate Ideological Imposition (June 2026)

Initiate Ideological Imposition lets a nation change ideology with reduced normal PP/stability switching friction, at the cost of a harsh stability event and the Forced Regime Change national modifier for roughly a year. Use it when Liberation wars are impractical or when you need Communism factory multipliers / Fascism tempo / Democracy tax tools on a schedule. Do not chain Imposition into Centralize into a three-front war unless your manpower and treasury can absorb the chaos. Full ideology wing advice lives on the Ideology Guide.

Planning Projects beside factories and tech

Projects do not replace factories. A National Mining Expansion or infrastructure program on an empty industrial base underperforms a greedy electronics opening. Sequence:

  1. Factories and trade (Economy).
  2. Core research queue for eco then military (Technology).
  3. One carefully chosen Project that unlocks the next political or industrial breakpoint.
  4. Land doctrine commitment (Military).
  5. Formable peace windows when Projects and wars allow (Formables).

Watch Discord and the Updates Hub after balance weeks — project numbers, capacity, and ideology gates move. Treat this page as the systems spine for the May 2026 release, then verify tooltips in-match before a pride run.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players search for every session.

When were Projects added to Rise of Nations?

Projects released in the May 24, 2026 minor update after April Discord previews, following the April 30 scrap of Fog of War.

How many Projects are there?

On the order of about thirty projects across Diplomatic, Domestic, Economy, Military, Political, and Research categories. Counts shift as Hyperant adds entries.

What does Centralize Military-Political Influence do?

It grants a large political power payout (about +300 PP) with roughly -10% stability on completion, while applying about 0.85x attack and defense while the project is active.

Should beginners rush Centralize?

Usually no. The combat penalty and stability hit collide with early wars. Secure factories first, then Centralize when you need a mid-game PP surge.

What is Initiate Ideological Imposition?

A June 2026 Political project that enables an ideology switch with Forced Regime Change consequences. Use it when a Liberation flip is impractical.

Do Projects replace research or factories?

No. Projects are a parallel investment layer. Keep factory openings and tech queues healthy, then spend capacity on projects that unlock the next breakpoint.
