Rise of Nations Updates Hub

Major 2025–2026 systems changes every strategist should know.

Last updated:

Rise of Nations has been in continuous development since 2018-11-14 under Hyperant on Roblox. Patch notes land in Discord, lobby logs, and the menu—faster than any static wiki page. Use this Updates Hub as a curated timeline of systems that changed how you research, invest, path armies, and form nations. For the absolute latest hotfix, join the official community Discord linked from the Wiki overview. Dedicated deep dives include the River Update, Projects Guide, Technology Guide, and Ideology Guide.

May 17, 2025 — Technology Update

The 2025 Technology Update reworked research into a timed / queued progression. Discrete tech count fell from roughly 162+ to about 78, base research output rose sharply, leveled technologies and Research Efficiency arrived, and nuke-related research became more expensive in follow-up patches. Practical impact:

  • You can no longer treat research as an afterthought while only building factories.
  • Doctrine and unit tech timing decide mid-game wars.
  • Guides that assume instant catch-up research are outdated—refresh Getting Started habits and the economy guide alongside the Technology Guide.

September 29, 2025 — State Doctrine laws (Stratocracy)

In State Doctrine changes for Nationalism and Fascism, Generic was renamed to Stratocracy, and Classical plus Clerical options were added. Classical became the default when adopting Nationalism/Fascism in that patch’s ruleset. Critical clarification for wiki readers:

  • Stratocracy is a State Doctrine law (manpower-oriented) on the Nationalism/Fascism wing.
  • It is not a rename of a land military doctrine such as Static Lines, Massed Attack, Specialization, or Manoeuvre Warfare.
  • Old chats saying “just leave Generic” in the State Doctrine law row mean Stratocracy now; Classical is the usual default pick for aligned leaders.

Read law context in Ideology and keep land trees in Military.

April–May 2026 — Fog of War scrapped, Projects arrive

Fog of War spent months in Hyperant’s testing place (visibility ranges by unit type, allies sharing vision) and was cut on April 30, 2026, replaced in design focus by Projects. Projects released in the May 24, 2026 update after Discord previewing in late April.

Projects are long-term investments spending political power, resources, manpower, and money for temporary or permanent modifiers. Categories span diplomatic, domestic, economy, military, political, and research projects (on the order of ~30 entries). Some unlock ideology-flavored laws/modifiers (5 Year Plan / Great New Deal / Economy Militarization style focuses). Initiate Ideological Imposition followed in June 2026 for Forced Regime Change flips.

Practical impact:

  • Plan a Project like a second research queue during formable campaigns (formables).
  • Use Centralize Military-Political Influence carefully — large PP payout with stability and combat penalties while active (Projects).
  • Do not wait for Fog of War—public matches stay fully visible as before the experiment.

August 12, 2026 — River Update (~86 rivers, then more)

The River Update added on the order of ~86 rivers as map features, with follow-up rivers later in August pushing the named count toward roughly ~91. Full systems write-up: River Update.

  • Blue river lines impose crossing penalties (infantry about 0.66x attack, tanks about 0.4x when attacking across).
  • Technologies exist to partially mitigate crossing penalties (Technology).
  • Cities on rivers gain about 1.1x tax, factory, and resource output.
  • Hydroelectric Stations are buildings ($200M + steel on river cities) for population support and a scaling national power buff — not Economy-menu Investments.
  • Basic puppet management and Hard Currency Initiative shipped in the same era (Policies).

Practical impact:

  • European and Asian offensives need river scouting—Roman Empire dreams changed shape.
  • Defenders can anchor lines on rivers instead of only forts.
  • Factory placement should favor river cities when bonuses stack with your build plan (Economy).

September 8, 2026 — Formables and dynamic flags

The September 8, 2026 minor update added new formable content including the Latin Federation and Baltoscandian Confederation, alongside a large wave of dynamic flags for many nations and formables. Exact city lists and exclusive requirements belong in-game and on specialized formable pages — this hub does not invent requirement tables. Check the formable decision tooltip before a pride run, and use Formables plus the Formables Tier List for strategy framing. Dynamic flags continue to expand across 2026 patches; cosmetic unlock rules vary by ideology and law.

How to stay current

  1. Read Hyperant’s Discord announcements first.
  2. Skim in-game lobby logs after updates.
  3. Revisit this hub after major named patches.
  4. Re-validate tier list advice—modifiers tiers stay, unit value shifts.
  5. Ignore fake codes blogs that invent “update codes.”

Guides most affected by these patches

Hyperant ships frequent minor updates (formable laws, leaders, balance tweaks, dynamic flags). Treat this page as the systems spine for 2025–2026, then verify numbers in Discord before a ranked pride run.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players search for every session.

What did the 2025 Technology Update change?

It reworked research into timed queues with leveled techs, cut discrete tech count to about 78, raised base research output, and made nuke research more expensive. Research planning is now mandatory.

What is Stratocracy in Rise of Nations?

Stratocracy is a State Doctrine law option for Nationalism and Fascism (renamed from Generic in that law row on September 29, 2025). It is manpower-oriented and is not a land military doctrine rename.

When were Projects added?

Projects released on May 24, 2026 after Discord previews in April, following the scrap of the Fog of War test feature.

Is Fog of War in the live game?

No. Fog of War was tested and then removed on April 30, 2026. Do not expect hidden enemy units from that scrapped system.

What did the River Update add?

About 86 rivers (later more), crossing penalties, mitigation technologies, 1.1x river-city economic bonuses, Hydroelectric Station buildings, puppet management, and Hard Currency Initiative. See the River Update.

What formables arrived on September 8, 2026?

New formable content included the Latin Federation and Baltoscandian Confederation, plus many dynamic flags. Check in-game tooltips for exact requirements rather than relying on invented lists.
